Good-bye Janvier

We started back to school with gusto- finishing the seasons, trees, starting back to handwork (Cash working on his knitting doll making i-chords which we used for our dragon puppet), finishing up our letters and most of the way through Roman numerals. We started our second set of reader books and Cash has definitely picked up his pace and is becoming a great reader. Yay! He still has me reading Harry Potter to him but I should start finding other good series that he'd enjoy.
The cold snap at the beginning of the month was wicked. Icicles on the inside of the windows we haven't replaced yet. Thankfully it only lasted a week and we've had nice days since- fifties during the day and thirties at night.
We also used the snow to finish up our animal tracking/prints lesson. We found rabbits, coyotes, horses, quail, chickens among others.
So we found out over Christmas that we would be expecting another little one to our family at the end of August-beginning of September. Took the kiddos out in the snow for a photo shoot to make out announcement. We plan on this being our last (I hope so at any rate) and that Heavenly Father doesn't have any more ideas for us. ;) We are excited at the prospect of being "complete."

The kids missed have Christmas in VC- Cash had wanted a white Christmas. But there was still some snow in store for us and we got to see St. Mary's all decked out before they took the decorations down.

It's been another mild winter here. We splurged and took the kids up to Heavenly for the gondola ride and to play in what little snow was left mid January. The view is spectacular- more than just Lake Tahoe, but the whole valley.

The snow was so packed we never would have managed a snowman, so thankfully a nice couple had gone to the trouble and then as they left said it was all ours to play with.

We've had colds come through and a few scattered sick days. Pherson has discovered Tupp's new hand-me-down fluffy ballerina dress. We also watched Star Wars on one of our sickie days so he regularly dons Vader mask and says "duhn, duhn, duhn, duhn" as he walks around. Vader is also now in his daily expanding vocabulary.
Tuppy decided she didn't want her booster seat anymore so we graduated it on to Pherson. It does make mealtime a bit trickier now that he can easily escape, but that along with potty training and transitioning him to sleep with the big kids are all part of getting ready for the new baby later this year.
Lastly, Clay found out mid January that Comstock was letting him go (along with close to 50% of the company). While this does not make us happy, they were at least kind enough to finish paying him for January and gave him a severance package (which they didn't have to do considering he was still a contractor and not an employee). Ever the optimist, Clay isn't worried. He has already applied for a job with the county for a tourism commission position and has other ideas up his sleeves.  We will keep you posted as things develop on the job front.
Wishing you all a happy Valentines day as, in all likelihood, I will not make it back on here by then. Loves!
