Clay had a wedding on Saturday so we left bright and early at 5:45am. I'm proud to say that I drove both there and home but appreciated having Clay as my copilot. The challenging part was getting the house all spic and span before we left so that it could be shown while we were away. To get a bit ahead of myself, we've already got an offer on it and we could be moving in as little as 30 days. Here's to hoping we find somewhere to go, eh? ;)
Our first day, Sunday, we spent in Virginia City. We watched tidbits of the parade and then had lunch before hopping on the V&T train to Carson City. Cash was excited for the trip (he kept saying he was going to drive the train and I had to tell him that might not be the case) but when the
huge train pulled up I think he got a little freaked out and kept his ears covered about half the time. It was a long ride- about an hour and a half. But neat to see all the sites.
We had planned to watch a baseball game between Reno and Sacramento along with fireworks. The day had taken it's toll and we waffled on the idea but ended up following through. Initially things didn't go well as Cash got creamed three times in less than as many minutes by out of control kids and their parents. But we found a seat on the grass and ate hot dogs and popcorn to make it all better. As the night went on the crowd lessened and we watched the fireworks at the end of the game before heading back to the house we shared with all the Mitchells (thank you Jeannie!!).
Monday was my favorite day. It more than made up for the fast pace of the day before. We headed out to Northstar and rode the ski lifts. It was glorious! So peaceful with the sense of flying, seeing the countryside and smelling the fresh air. Glorious!
Here we are all crammed on the lift. We rode each one twice. Next time I think I could spend an entire day just doing this and hiking and picnicking.
We ate lunch in the car as we drove to Zephyr Cove (?) and boarded the Dixie II for a 2 hour ride to Emerald bay. It was great to hear all the history of Tahoe and see the water- the color is splendid. Cash loved seeing the paddle wheel and still talks about it. If you look close you can see Jeannie on the middle deck in purple waving to the camera :)
On Tuesday Clay had some errands so Jeannie and Cash and I headed out looking for something to entertain ourselves. We were fortunate to find Idelwild park near the River Walk. We rode a little train a couple of times, played on the play ground and then walked along the river and Cash threw in some rocks and poked around with a stick. We headed home around 1pm and Cash slept almost the whole way home. In spite of the drive we were refreshed enough to teach our swing dance lesson.On Wednesday we headed to Sausalito for the Discovery Museum since the first Wednesday of the month is free. And as Clay always says, if it's free it's for me. It TOTALLY ROCKED! If you haven't been and you get a chance you should totally do it. I loved how they had a designated tot area for kids under a certain height. Cash was in heaven and the hardest part was just getting him to leave. One day we hope to go back again.
