On Tuesday the kids and I went with some friends to the Tahoe beach for the first time. It was great fun swimming, building sand castles, crawdad fishing...much better than ocean beach.
It was shallow enough for Cash to walk out to these rocks. He didn't know that so he used a floatie to get out there. Then the floatie floated away and he thought he was stuck. He wouldn't believe me so I had to get one of the older kids to walk him back in. Goof.
Tuppy borrowed this dress from her friend Sawyer, who has quite the extensive dress up collection. She added her batman and became "dark princess." When I went to take her picture Pherson hugged her spontaneously and Cash decided to jump in too.
I noticed on Groupon that there was a deal for a gymnastics class. We were thinking of putting Cash in either karate or parkour but the classes are all late in the evening which makes it rough for Pherson, bedtime, Clay wtih work.... So we went and tried it out for free on Wednesday. They have a boys class and I think it will be good for his lucky fin (right arm). So we'll be doing that for the next month. We also joined a science co-op class in Reno and this first week he learned about lizards, static electricity and wicking.
I keep trying to get up early to squeeze my run in but the hard part is going to bed at a decent hour coupled with Pherson having recently deciding to wake up anywhere from 5:15 to 5:45AM. I end up having to take him and sometimes even Tupp on a walk with me. Less effective exercise wise, but it's nice to say good morning to the donkeys and horses.
A leftover from the Ren Faire. The Queen's husband took it and sent it to us. ;)
On Friday we visited many musuems since it was First Friday Museum free day. We walked the whole day so needless to say, by the end we were exhausted. We went to the courthouse and saw all the old documents: births, deaths, newspapers, etc. Then we went to the Police Officers museum which is in the old jailhouse. The entire collection is from one man and only a tenth of what he has in storage. After that we hit pipers opera house, the way it was museum, we skipped the mark twain and the washoe club, and walked to the opposite end of town to the 4th ward school. After that we ended the day at the Mackay mansion and limped home.

On Saturday was Muckfest. The town had about four mining related activites including drilling, mucking, mining chocolate chips out of cookies for the kids and riding a handcart at the train station. What would usually make for a full town was curtailed by a huge motorcycle accident on Geiger grade (from reno to VC) that shut down through traffic from 9am to 2:30pm. We were almost the only attendees. We went to the cookie mining and rode the handcart before we had to head home for lunch and put Pherson down for naps. Cash liked riding the handcart going forward but not backward. Tupp, on the other hand, is my dare devel.
The Dunford Clan liked our experience at the Ren Faire so much they decided to go too. So after a day driving and playing in the forest they stayed with us. After dinner we went for a walk around main street and ice cream. Turns out our car is broken again. Alas.
Sharing their purchase of sasparilla and birch beer. I highly recommend birch beer.
This week we're taking it easy and then leaving Friday for Santa Rosa as Clay has his very last wedding that booked nearly two years ago. The kids and I are going to go to the Vallejo Pirate Festival with some friends, then Father's day and then we're staying until we have Pherson's well baby check up on Tuesday morning. Yeah, health insurance has been a nightmare so we've stuck with our California one in the meantime. Inconvenient to say the least, but what are you going to do?
