Tartan Day & Our Garden

Tartan Day didn't turn out to be as fun as I'd originally planned. Not that there was anything really planned for it, but Cash was still recovering from his mysterious illness (more on that in a moment) so we spent the morning straightening out health insurance and making an appointment for later that day to see the doctor. Cash was ready for a nap earlier than anticipated so the going to the doctor experience was considerably worse than it normally is.
Cash had been waking up and getting sick once in the night for several nights in a row. There were no other symptoms and he was his normal self during the day. They believe it's a virus and in an effort to keep his good bacteria count from getting depleted we've changed up his diet. While I'm not keen on taking out wheat and gluten entirely unless absolutely necessary, this is a good experience because it's forcing me to be less lax in what I feed him and is getting me to push his vegetables more. I don't think he's that happy about it, but then he's not big on eating to begin with. He's mostly bummed that his staple (crackers) have been removed. Rice cakes don't quite fill the gap. The good news is it seems he really is doing better- no more getting sick at night. We're going to keep at it for a week and then try to slowly put the wheat back in and hope the virus has fully run it's course.
I did put his kilt on for play time and for his outing to hang out with the Empty Nesters (the once a month dinner group my parents go to).

We planted our little starter plants today. Just waiting for the lettuce and onions to grow a bit more so we can separate them and do the transplant. And we need to pick up the broccli and peppers from our friend Sarah.
Gardens are so exciting!

The next step is to pick up the gravel to fill in the rest of the backyard and then put in Cash's slide (thank you Oma and Opa for storing it for us in the meantime). And then we need to find a tool that will work in destroying my arch nemesis- the tree that is starting to take over the back corner. You can even see it hanging menacingly over our little pumpkins.
We can see the light at the end of the tunnel....
